3D

Here are some examples of my 3D process.

I started with some concept art. I had an idea of making props for a science fiction lab that is part of a larger project idea I intend to work on.

There are a lot of fine details that I did not want to add up the poly count so I planned to make some of those details textures with opacity. I made crisscrossing planes to go inside the vial.

I had some minimal geometry for some of the detail that will show up in the vial.

After adding adding glass, the poly count was at 395.

I unwrapped the pieces and organized them together.

I added different vertex colors to each piece to make the painting process easier in Substance Painter. I also applied two materials. One for the glass and one for the rest of the pieces.

I made several variations of the vial to experiment and get different looks.

In Substance Painter, I painted the root-like details with a brush onto my intersecting planes and created an alpha map in which I used to achieve the textures with opacity.

With lighting in Unity, I can really get some interesting results from these low poly assets.

I will continue to share my progress when I can. The next screenshot shows more assets I made that are in Unity.

CHARIoT Challenge

I worked on this project as a 3D generalist freelancer. I modeled and textured an abandoned hydroelectric powerplant based on photo references and videos I could find. It felt like detective work as there was no clear source of references for every aspect of the large or small building that made up the powerplant.

This project was for a design challenge and the end users are first responders arriving at disasters. We used Unity and the Magic Leap Headset.
